THE ROOTS "HOW I GOT OVER"

Today one of hip-hop greatest bands dropped their 9th album titled "How I Got Over." Production for the album was primarily handled by band members Black Thought and Questlove during 2008 to 2009.

Similair to the previous The Roots full-length, 2008's Rising Down the album features a wide array of guest singers and rappers. John Legend & B.O.B. appears on the single 'The Fire' and alternative rock group Monsters of Folk help The Roots remake their own song, 'Dear God' into an updated '...2.0' version which was released as the most promoted single. The album also feature a track that samples Joanna Newsom's "Book of Right-On," a track featured on her 2004 release The Milk-Eyed Mender, as well as new overdubs for the track, The Root's versions appear under the title 'Right On' here.

Other artists making guest apperances on How I Got Over include the ususal collaborators in form of Dice Raw, who makes several apperance throughout the album, P.O.R.N., Truck North and Peedi Peedi. Appearing for the first time on a The Roots album are Bay Area rapper Blu and newcomer STS, alternative group The Dirty Projectors does the intro to the record.

The album was primarily handled by the group themeselves, with Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson and Black Thought being involved the most. Like all The Roots releases since the passing of producer and friend J Dilla, How I Got Over includes an homage to him as a person and his musical style (who ?uestlove many, many times credits for teaching and inspiring him more than anyone else in the music buisness) with the instrumental interlude "DillaTUDE: Flight Of The Titus".
